I am a non-representational abstract painter, with a strong focus on colour relationships and texture. My paintings are about life experiences and ideas about art. My paintings are an expression of colour and they are associated with emotional connections. I am inspired by Cy Twombly, William de Kooning, and Aida Tomescu. My project has developed from an interest in symbolic representation to a purely non-representational approach. This has allowed me to explore the conceptual meaning of colour theory and the intersection of emotion and rational thought. I use acrylic paint on canvas and experiment with applying the paint in varied ways with brushes, squeegees, rags and palette knives. I am also fascinated with the texture of the paint, adding calcium carbonate, wood shavings and sand to change the viscosity of the paint and the surface qualities. For each painting, I experiment with colour to create a harmonious palette. These paintings allow the viewer to experience exaggerated gestural brushstrokes through wash of colour and gain an overall sense of balance and harmony. I believe that abstract painting should not necessarily have any story to tell. In this way sometimes the viewer finds what the painting is about.

Title or Location: Cradle mountain
Cradle MountainInspired by a memorable holiday in Tasmania, this painting captures the powerful beauty of one of Australia?s most iconic natural landmarks. The mountain rises with quiet strength, its slopes draped in rich green bushes, while golden patches shimmer where sunlight touches the rugged surface. Below, the lake lies still and calm?like a mirror, like a carpet of water?reflecting the mountain's majesty and the peaceful atmosphere of the wilderness. This scene is a tribute to the awe

Blue heart of the earth is a commissioned painting created for a gentleman who requested a topographic interpretation of a lake in Shark Bay. "A Northern river, water flow and ice" (actual size 18x24" oil on panel)I have been fortunate to have a couple of friends who live in the Duluth area. They often walk the area by the Seven Bridges Road and take photos of the streams and river in that area. I saw several of their photos posted and realized the photos tied in strongly with my interest in painting rivers and moving, sometimes turbulent, waters.
