REVIEWS
The teacher was very good and explained things well as demonstrating techniques. I was not aware that it would be held outside and a number of others weren't aware either. Parking instructions would have been helpful as would suggestions that people bring their own drinks as nothing was open. What are the arrangements if people are eating on the picnic tables where we sat or if it rains?

I am a non-representational abstract painter, with a strong focus on colour relationships and texture. My paintings are about life experiences and ideas about art. My paintings are an expression of colour and they are associated with emotional connections. I am inspired by Cy Twombly, William de Kooning, and Aida Tomescu. My project has developed from an interest in symbolic representation to a purely non-representational approach. This has allowed me to explore the conceptual meaning of colour theory and the intersection of emotion and rational thought. I use acrylic paint on canvas and experiment with applying the paint in varied ways with brushes, squeegees, rags and palette knives. I am also fascinated with the texture of the paint, adding calcium carbonate, wood shavings and sand to change the viscosity of the paint and the surface qualities. For each painting, I experiment with colour to create a harmonious palette. These paintings allow the viewer to experience exaggerated gestural brushstrokes through wash of colour and gain an overall sense of balance and harmony. I believe that abstract painting should not necessarily have any story to tell. In this way sometimes the viewer finds what the painting is about.

Living near the ocean, often see schools of fish around reefs. On one occasion, a much larger school appeared being chased by a sea lion. The motion and colour of the swirling mass of fish captured my imagination and just had to create the images onto canvas.

Cradle MountainInspired by a memorable holiday in Tasmania, this painting captures the powerful beauty of one of Australia?s most iconic natural landmarks. The mountain rises with quiet strength, its slopes draped in rich green bushes, while golden patches shimmer where sunlight touches the rugged surface. Below, the lake lies still and calm?like a mirror, like a carpet of water?reflecting the mountain's majesty and the peaceful atmosphere of the wilderness. This scene is a tribute to the awe

I spent the summer of 2024 developing this art form. I am free-forming epoxy resin and fusing. This allows me to layer and make 3D sculptures and relief from a medium not typically suited for this purpose. At this time, I have not found anyone else who has done this with epoxy resin. It appears to be glass, but it's not.Artist Statement:Virginia Alden's artistry is a vibrant synthesis of nature and craftsmanship, where each piece is meticulously hand-formed or painted from epoxy resin. I?m passionate about the ocean and lived on it a majority of my life. I would even take my children to observe sea life, in several locations on the coast..Tide pools being one of my favorite! We could observe anemones, sea slugs, starfish and more. Years ago I applied to a school in their Marine Sciences program. I wasn?t accepted because I was a woman!Yeah and that dates me a little. The passion will never die.
